International Consumer Rights Day - The Right to Buy Fair
Today the world celebrates International Consumer Rights Day: An annual campaign driven by Consumers International to promote basic consumer rights, demand respect and protection of those rights, and to protest the market abuses and social injustices which undermine them.

The world’s first independent ethical certification system for responsibly mined gold – Fairtrade and Fairmined gold – celebrates its first anniversary this Fairtrade Fortnight (27 Feb – 11 March).

Fair Trade holiday offerings to South Africa from Switzerland tripled
Since the launch of the first ever Fair Trade holiday packages to South Africa in Switzerland one year ago, the offering has tripled and there are currently six Fair Trade certified packages available on the Swiss market. These packages include wildlife, nature, culture and city experiences, and cater for a range of price levels.
FTTSA the first standard in Africa to be recognised by Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)
Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) is now one of ten sustainable tourism standards globally and the first in Africa to achieve formal recognition by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

We share with you our final newsletter of 2011 and send with it greetings and well wishes for the festive season from the Fair Trade House in Cape Town.
2011 has been a critical year for the Network as many changes were implemented, which you can read in the Chairman's report in the newsletter.
The newsletter also includes articles from Alison Montgomery, who did her doctoral fieldwork in SA for 18 months in the Fairtrade winelands, as well as Malcolm Clark from Fairtrade London, who enjoyed a Fair Trade Tourism tour up the West Coast.

1 December 2011. The famous ethical brand Fair Trade Original™ was launched in Woolworths stores earlier this month. The products, four exciting herb & spice grinders, contain Fairtrade certified ingredients from India and are proudly mixed and packed in South Africa.
