General: Fair Trade AGM and Conference
Register now to attend the 2010 Fair Trade Annual General Meeting and Conference!
Another fruitful year has passed for fair trade in South Africa and we would thus like to share our progress with you at our Fair Trade AGM and Conference, hosted at the Fountains Hotel, Cape Town this year!
AGM and Conference (full day)
During the morning of the Wednesday, 27th October we will first attend to AGM matters such as our annual reports from the chairperson and executive director, and financial report. Thereafter we will discuss the new constitution and if adopted, a new board will be elected for Fair Trade South Africa.
After lunch the various fair trade networks and organisations in South Africa (FTTSA, COFTA, AFIT, AFN/SAFN, FLO and FLO Cert) will provide us with insight into their activities and projects undertaken in the past year.
Network Cocktail (after AGM and Conference - 20h00)
After an afternoon of presentations we invite you to relax with us at our Fairtrade Network Cocktail, also to be hosted at the Fountains Hotel.
Workshops (half day)
On the 28th, 4 workshops will be hosted simultaneously:
1. Promotion Planning 2011 by Fairtrade Label South Africa
Description: A workshop to plan the promotional events for 2011 with Fairtade Licensees and applicants. Discussion will be held on the work done in 2010 and how FLSA can improve in the future.
Target group: Fairtrade Licensees and applicants for Licensee
2. Fairtrade Premium Management by FLO e.V. and FLO Cert
Description: This workshop will explain what the purpose of the premium is, as well as who is to manage these funds and how they are supposed to be spent.
Target group: Joint Body members and workers on Fairtrade certified farms
3. Trade Justice through Fairtrade by Fairtrade Africa
Description: Development of a Southern fair trade movement is significant to mainstreaming fair trade principles and ensuring greater support for producers to improve their livelihoods. Discussions will explore opportunities, climate change and unbalanced trade regimes. The workshop will also encourage discussion on how such a movement could be used to effectively engage discussion on how such a movement could be used to effectively engage regional and continental bodies to influence relevant policies to benefit producers.
Target group: consultants and individuals promoting trade for African producers, Fairtrade traders
4. South African Network building: A COFTA stakeholder consultation on a 3 year strategic and action plan by Cooperation for Fair Trade in Africa
Description: This workshop will discuss a strategic plan for a fair trade network in South Africa. (This is not to be confused with Fair Trade South Africa)
Target group: COFTA/WFTO members, COFTA/WFTO applicants, anyone interested in a COFTA network in Southern Africa
