Originally called the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT, 1989), this system recently changed its name in WFTO and re-established itself as the main voice for fair trade producers and workers mainly in the field of handicraft, natural products, jewellery, etc. The WFTO is a membership organisation but it is currently developing the Sustainable Fair Trade Management System (SFTMS), which looks at the possibility of product certification. The WFTO regional network in Africa is called COFTA (Cooperation for Fair Trade in Africa) and currently has 60 members.
