We Fairtrade Label South Africa (FLSA) are the National Fairtrade Organisation and have been a member of Fairtrade International since April 2009.
Our aim is to increase the awareness of Fairtrade in South Africa and to develop the local market for Fairtrade products, with a special focus on local and African goods. We are a non-profit and non-governmental organisation (NGO). Our mission is to inspire South African and African stakeholders to change the world through Fairtrade.
Our work includes three main areas:
FLSA is a level 3 contributor to B-BBEE. Download our certificate here.
We license South African companies that want to use the FAIRTRADE Mark on their Fairtrade certified products. By doing this, we also assist companies in finding Fairtrade suppliers and/or making their own supply chains Fairtrade-compliant. For more information visit our licensing section.
In order to grow the impact of Fairtrade, we need to grow the market for Fairtrade labelled products as well as the awareness of Fairtrade among consumers, insitutions and other stakeholders. To this end we organise campaigns, events and other promotional activities to educate the public about Fairtrade and foster the demand for Fairtrade certified products.
We work with South African and African traders, manufacturers and retailers to develop local supply chains for Fairtrade products, in so doing increasing the Fairtrade offer to South African consuemrs. By encouraging all-African supply chains, we aim to foster value-adding activities locally, thus keeping the benefits and profits generated by Fairtrade in the continent – ultimately encouraging African development.
