This proudly African campaign, running for the second year, from 3 – 9 August, is back to warm things up with exciting announcements from some of South Africa’s most loved brands. The campaign will feature recipes from South Africa’s favourite foodies and feature inspiring stories from African producers as we travel the continent in search of the fairest, premium quality coffee & cocoa beans.
What’s your flavour? Both coffee & chocolate start off as beans grown by small-scale farmers from all around the world; by the time you’ve had your breakfast chocolate muffin and added sugar to your cappuccino, you’ve already relied on tens of thousands of small-scale farmers who grow these essential beans. During Coffee & Choc Week, follow us on Facebook & Twitter as we trace this journey to discover where the beans are grown, learn more about the countries of origin, the different flavour profiles, and meet the farmers behind the stories.
Mugg & Bean is launching single origin, organic and Fairtrade “bottomless” coffee across its national stores during Fairtrade Coffee & Choc Week.
“When discussing innovation in our coffee procurement practices, it was Fairtrade that eventually won the consensus. Our Fairtrade coffee is carefully selected among the best, organic African beans and we expect it will deliver incredible value to both our customers and the producers in Uganda,” comments Lee-Ann Cullingworth, Marketing Manager at Mugg & Bean.
"We are very proud to have been the first major business to achieve Fairtrade certification in South Africa for Cadbury Dairy Milk slabs in 2011. Now, four years later, we are excited to be strengthening our commitment to Fairtrade with the launch of the new smoother, silkier Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk" says Andrea Wright, Mondelez SA Category Head for Chocolate.
"We are confident that this move demonstrates our commitment to fair practices and improved living standards for our farmers and their communities. In working with Fairtrade, we can create a sustainable supply of high quality cocoa & sugar for Cadbury Dairy Milk and continue to spread joy to our consumers."
Fairtrade instant coffee is officially available at Checkers stores countrywide. Checkers supports the Fairtrade ideal with their own range of Antigua Fairtrade Freeze Dried Coffees, exclusively available to Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores.

“I support Fairtrade because it is ethical. It's fantastic that there is an organization solely aimed at overseeing the supply chain of products and making sure that every person involved in every stage of the process is paid and treated justly.”
